Error Bars

In an experiment in college, I asked the demonstrator what size the error bars should be for a given piece of equipment, and he said it didn't matter, so long as they were present in the graph.

This made me quite suspicious about the whole practice of physical experimentation in trinity, so from then on I did not care what the fuck went on in those lectures and practicals.

I feel like I should now make this puerile anecdote applicable to ordinary life, but that would be artificial and inaccurate.
